Visa Application Requirements for
South African Student Visa Requirements for US Citizens:
A valid passport and visa are required to travel to this destination.
Original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay, with at least one blank visa page available for visa stamp(s). Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for visa stamps.
South African Visa Application Form:
One signed South Africa visa application form plus one copy.
Improperly completed South Africa visa application forms may delay the processing of your South Africa visa.
Two recent 2 x 2 passport type photographs, in color, front view and with a plain/white background.
OR - you can upload a passport photo to the Global Service Order Form when you place your order, instead of providing physical passport photos.
A copy of birth certificate.
Proof Of Departure:
Computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or travel agency or copy of airline tickets.
State police clearance certificate for all applicants 18 years of age or older, from all previous countries of residence for a period exceeding one year.
Applicants under the age of 21 (under 18 if applying in New York or Los Angeles), not traveling with both parents or a legal guardian, must provide a notarized letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent(s) or guardian authorizing the South African consulate to issue a visa to the minor. A copy of the applicant's birth certificate and guardianship or custody agreement documents are also required.
Medical Requirements: Medical Certificate Form B1-811
(Signed by doctor with an office stamp). Radiological Report
(signed by doctor w/ office stamp) or Tuberculosis Test result.
Proof of Health Insurance (copy of medical insurance card).
International Certificate of Vaccination required for Yellow Fever (if arriving from infected area within 5 days).
Proof of financial means in the form of bank statement or notarized letter from the parents stating financial responsibility.
An official letter from the institution confirming provisional acceptance and duration of the course or an official letter of provisional enrollment from the institution of learning concerned.
A repatriation deposit of $1500.00 in case of all applicants studying in South Africa for one year or more. Important: the applicant must keep the money order receipt, the deposit will not be returned by the South African Consulate without the receipt. Travisa will not be able to provide a copy of this receipt if lost.
Global Service Order Form:
This is Travisa's service order form, where you will provide your contact and shipping information, choose the visa processing needed and make your payment. You must print the completed form and send it to Travisa with all other supporting documents.
South African Visa Processing Time:
South Africa visas are usually processed in 10 plus business days. Rush or Emergency visa service may be available for additional fees. Please visit our “South Africa Consular Fees and Visa Processing Options” link for details.
In order to ensure that visa applications for most embassies/consulates are submitted on the day that we receive them, they should be shipped to us via FedEx Priority Overnight (not First Overnight or Standard Overnight).
Non-refundable tickets or reservations should not be purchased until all visas and passports are secured and in your possession.
